Bullerengue Circle CIC was founded in 2021 by Esteban Cardona and Valeria Pacific with the aim to share and spread the Afro Colombian tradition of bullerengue as a conscious practice
Bullerengue is a set of rhythms consisting of drums (Alegre and Llamador), shakers, claps, dance and call-and-response chants that evoke a state of trance. But it is much more than just music: it is a ritual and a lifestyle. It is a symbol of resistance and connection to the root. Being practiced in ruedas (circles), it promotes inclusion, community and diversity. During the rueda, all its participants unify their voices and become part of a collective chant
Since 2019, Esteban and Valeria have been actively involved with the Latinx community in London, promoting bullerengue as a tool for self awareness and connection. They’ve been sponsored by the Art’s Council to carry out a research project on bullerengue in Colombia to deepen their knowledge about its musical as well as its ritual and spiritual aspects
