mayamada is a manga brand that reaches across industries into video games and youth engagement. We have created our own universe of characters and produce manga-style comics to tell their stories. We've been lucky enough to showcase our work at conventions across the country and internationally.
We run a community gaming event called GamePad within the video games industry. We believe in making gaming more diverse and inclusive and use our platform to provide events, content and career opportunities for young people who aspire to become games industry professionals. In addition to our stories and events, we also work with youth organisations to deliver engaging creative workshops for young people from primary to college level in Tottenham and across London.
A former software engineer turned creative entrepreneur, Nigel Twumasi
is the co-founder of mayamada: a creative brand that reaches into comics/manga, gaming and youth engagement and in 2019 was recognised as a member of the nationwide 56 Black Men campaign.
I write manga style comics and run an industry-supported video game event called GamePad. Through this event, my team are able to work with the games industry to host inclusive all-ages events that promote diversity in the industry.
I also deliver comic storytelling workshops, building creative confidence in young people. My background and current work across creative industries have given me an understanding of career paths that many young people wish to be a part of. I also understand the need to increase the diversity in the industries I work in, both in terms of demographics as well as the diversity of roles the next generation is aware of and aspire to.
